The Café Collective is passionate about implementing and championing the Healthy Options WA Policy. Healthy food has always been an intrinsic part of our operation, from the design of our stores, to our menus and food and beverage displays.
Our goal is to create welcoming spaces where quality, home made food is served in an inviting manner. Abundant fresh fruit for our made to order juices are displayed alongside crisp, overflowing salads to mix and match as the customer chooses. Hearty, authentic sushi and noodles that are as healthy as they are delicious, home made bakes and sandwiches that are filling and tasty, without the need for butter, rich sauces or excessive oil. Many of our kitchens have omitted deep fryers altogether, allowing us to focus on the styles of food we love best – fresh, homemade and delicious. We do not buy our products in or store them hidden away in glad wrap. We are proud of everything we make on site daily and show case it in abundant displays in every store. We will not promote “red” items in our cafes and are always working to encourage our staff and customers to make better, healthier choices. The Café Collective’s General Manager, Adrian Mule, is a member of the WA Canteen Association and is actively involved in the implementation and audit of each state’s health eating policy, as well as our own operational policies amongst our stores. He has worked closely with South Metropolitan Health and the WA Canteen Association to develop and implement policies that empower customers to make healthy choices and are practical to implement in any hospitality venue. He has also implemented our own internal self audits across stores to ensure we are compliant with healthy eating policies at all times. It is important to us to not only drive these initiatives in our stores, but to create new and exciting ways to encourage healthy eating in future as well.

8/3/2022 0 Comments PLANET-FRIENDLY PACKAGINGWe use eco-friendly packaging in all of our cafes wherever possible, doing our part towards a plastic-free future. Since 2020 all of our sites have used exclusively Biopak Coffee Cups, made from sustainably sourced paper and plant-based bioplastic.
By buying coffee cups and other packaging products from BioPak, a carbon neutral company, we have avoided more than 14,000kg of plastic in the past 12 months. Our support also contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions in the form of offset credits, and helps create a greener future through tree-planting projects. Our internal coffee roasting entity, Nine Bars, is proud to be part of BioPak's vision for a world without waste. 5/19/2022 0 Comments SUPPORTING OUR HEROESWe have so much admiration and respect for the thousands of nurses and midwives that we serve every day in our cafes.
Every year we are proud to offer a free coffee to every nurse and midwive to celebrate International Nurses & Midwives Day in May. In 2022 we distributed 2025 free coffees, worth $9112 to nursing staff across our seven health campus cafes. As many of our cafes operate on health campuses, we are more than pleased to do our part to support the nursing community. It is especially important in the midst of the current pandemic that we acknowledge the courage, compassion, and tireless work of our nurses and midwives. A small token to say a huge thank you to our heroes! 8/12/2021 0 Comments THE WAR ON SINGLE USE PLASTICSThe Cafe Collective is committed to the practice of environmental sustainability in all aspects of our business. We truly believe we have the opportunity and responsibility to make this a better world.
Our business impacts on the environment through sourcing agricultural products and other materials to serve and build our cafes. The Cafe Collective Support Office and stores operate in a manner that respects the environment and integrates the following principles in its management:
The staff, patients and visitors to Kirwan Health Campus in Townsville, Queensland, were in desperate need of food and coffee after their cafeteria closed in 2019.
We came to their rescue with Supernatural, our fresh and health sandwich, salad and coffee concept. From the tiniest space imaginable, we serve freshly made juices, smoothies, home made pastries, fresh salads, bowls, sandwiches and much more. The café has been a welcome addition to the area and we are so pleased to be a part of this growing and vibrant health precinct. 6/24/2021 0 Comments BRAND NEW HOBART HOSPITAL EATERIESIn November 2020 we opened Pounds + Ounces, overlooking Campbell St at the brand new Royal Hobart Hospital K Block. A fresh display of sandwiches, snacks, salads and sweets is complimented with an all day breakfast and burger menu, as well as freshly made juices and smoothies, our own roasted coffee and much more.
A few months later this was followed by Green Panda, our fresh noodle, sushi, rice and bowls concept. We are so proud of our team for the dedication displayed in getting both of these brands designed, constructed and opened during the difficult COVID-19 period. Thank you to the brilliant team at Royal Hobart Hospital for their support and wonderful feedback so far! 11/20/2020 0 Comments NOW OPEN AT MURDOCHWe are now open at the Murdoch TAFE Campus in Block T and are so pleased to be a part of this new and vibrant space!
Along with plenty of chlorophyll-happy flora, this buzzing campus specialises in animal studies, gardening, laboratory work, and nursing in some very impressive training facilities. Market by Aroma faces Jennalup Street and displays a fresh range of salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot meals, bowls, snacks and treats. Our coffee is roasted just over 6kms down the road in O’Connor. An initiative of Melbourne Coffee Merchants, The Umuvumu Project raises money for a kindergarten that services the children of Buf Coffee. In Kinyarwanda (the national language of Rwanda) the word umuvumu refers to a type of sycamore tree, a long-living species with a broad, strong trunk and far reaching, leafy branches. The trees are planted around homes and villages to provide shade, and in doing so are often used as meeting places for the local community. It’s here that Rwandan people have historically gathered to share opinions and concerns and deliberated on how to progress their society positively. When Buf Coffee’s founder, Epiphanie, and her son and general manager, Sam, came to name their latest social venture – a kindergarten located just a few kilometres from the coffee washing station, Nyarusiza, in Rwanda’s Southern Province – umuvumu seemed like a perfect fit. A meeting place, where Rwandan people plan and work together to support and uplift each other. And so, in January of 2019, Umuvumu Kindergarten was opened to service the families who farm and process coffee in the local area. As a frequent visitor to Nyarusiza, Sam had identified the challenge many families face in finding adequate care for their young children during the busy coffee harvest season, when their parents must work on the farm or at the coffee washing station, and their older siblings are attending school (which is compulsory in Rwanda). In building Umuvumu Kindergarten, Buf has not only found a solution for this problem but is also uplifting the community by providing access to early childhood education, a vitally important stage of learning and development for a child. Ninebars is excited to be contributing to this initiative. Umuvumu Kindergarten was opened in January 2019 to service the families who farm and process coffee in the local area.

7/28/2018 0 Comments INTRODUCING COURTSIDE MURDOCHThe Courtside brand was created especially for Murdoch University. The name ties to its location, sitting alongside Bush Court, in the University's newly refurbished Student Hub.
The fitout of the cafe was designed with a subtle eighties aesthetic. The neon logo and undercounter lighting are tribute to this era, as is the colour palette of teracotta and cottage green. The space we had to work with had quite a small footprint and a relatively low light level, so a backdrop of white and light timber was selected to help maximise the feeling of space. The made to order menu focuses on a range of bowls, including a popcorn chicken and mash and a vegan buddha bowl. In the display cabinet you'll find a range of sandwiches and salad - all prepared fresh in the Courtside kitchen. Courtside coffee is freshly roasted in our O'Connor warehouse. |
We would love the opportunity to work together. Please get in touch to organise a chat.
